First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Tennessean.
Reporter
It was a 2-day interview process. I met with all the editors, senior management, and got a tour of the building. I had to repeat my answers to several people. They wanted to see that I knew the company and some of their past stories. They emphasized a digital-first approach.
- How does your previous experience align with the needs of this newspaper?
- Can you demonstrate your familiarity with our company and its previous reporting?
- What are your thoughts on prioritizing digital content in journalism?
Editor
I interviewed with three people who seemed to be supervisors and also with some of the folks I might be working with. They asked me about my experience related to the job, threw in some behavioral questions, and asked what I'd do if I got the job. The whole thing took about 6 weeks.
- What would be several things you'd like to add to what the paper does now to make it a better product and engage readers?
Marketing Manager
Applied via Gannett's site, recruiter reached out. Then two panel interviews. After the last one, I heard nothing back. Says a lot about the company.
- Can you walk me through your process for creating and implementing marketing strategies?
