Marketing Intern
To get a real marketing internship, don't bother applying if you're looking for something else. They have this system where they want you to 'learn how to talk to people' and 'take charge of a conversation' before you can move up from just being a salesperson. This means working at a kiosk in a big store, selling for Comcast (the Atlanta branch's main client), or doing door-to-door sales or other events. It's all commission-based. You'll be working Monday to Saturday, from 9 am to 7 pm.
- Are you competitive?
- What's your take on direct marketing?
- Can you lead a conversation?
Event Marketing Assistant
I quit the interview because it was not the job I thought I applied for. It's not actually a marketing job, so don't get scammed. I felt very uncomfortable and like my whole day was a waste. There are 2 interview rounds. The first is with the Director, who mostly just discussed the company and didn't really interview me. The second round involved shadowing a team leader for the day. I got to the office for the interview, and soon after, we left for a "job site." The site was a 50-minute drive from the office (which I wasn't told about beforehand), and I had to drive there with the team member I had just met in my own car. Once we arrived, there was no shadowing, just the team leader explaining the company's program for growth. The job is basically standing in grocery stores selling products at a kiosk, like those people you try to avoid in stores. He gave me three challenges; two weren't related to marketing at all. One was to list 10 of my biggest weaknesses. Noticing I was losing interest, the team leader then insulted my job experience and questioned my trustworthiness for long-term commitment, which is funny since both employees I met had only been there a few months. If you want a 100% commission job, this might be it, but you have to get through the initial BS.
- Can you list 10 of your weaknesses and explain how you've worked through them?
- What makes you believe you can commit to this company long-term?
Customer Service Representative
I got a call from the HR assistant about two days after applying on LinkedIn. She was friendly and seemed really invested in my past experience. After about a 5-7 minute chat, she invited me in for an interview to meet with the director for a more detailed chat. When I came in, I met with their director, who is originally from England and had a very interesting background. He was also really interested in my background. I could tell he really wanted to know me and what I was looking for, which was really refreshing after all the interviews I've been on where I felt like just a number. It definitely surprised me because there were a lot of people in the lobby! I found out they share office space, which made me feel better. I went on a second interview and got to spend the full day with the company, and I had the best time. I learned a lot in such a short period, loved the people I met, and the fast-paced environment. Overall, it was a great experience.
- Could you share some transferable skill-sets from your past work experience that would be beneficial in this office environment?
Management Trainee
The interview process has 3 stages. First, you have a chat with a management team member to discuss your goals and the position. Second, you get to spend a day in the life, which was great and I met the whole team. Third, you sit with the CEO and convince them why you should get the position.
- What makes you stand out from other candidates?
- What are your career and personal life goals?
- How can this role help you achieve your goals?
