First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Standard Hotel.
Revenue Manager
Initial chat with HR, which covered both role-specific and general topics. The conversation felt good and informal, and they were happy to share company details. They even offered helpful feedback afterwards, despite not moving forward with my application.
- Can you describe what an ideal workday looks like for you?
Server
The food and beverage team was very welcoming. They moved quickly to interview candidates, but it never felt rushed. The interview area had a beautiful ambiance. Candidates were called in and asked scenario-based questions related to their experience. The interviewer seemed to be looking for candidates who were a good fit for the role, with a shining personality and a big smile.
- How would you handle an unhappy customer and improve their dining experience?
Guest Service Agent
The Standard has open hiring calls every two months, which seems a bit off. They keep interviewing for the same roles repeatedly. I wonder if they can't find suitable candidates or if employees leave often, or both. The open call took about 2-3 hours total, with around 50 other candidates present. I spoke with the Front Office Director about my guest service experience, and saw some other candidates get rejected. I got a rejection about a week later, and saw the same job posted again for another open call. It feels suspicious. I got 4 offers from other hotels after this. I don't understand why they always seem to have openings.
- What made you decide to apply to The Standard?
Event Coordinator
The interview process was a bit slow and could have been more engaging. I had to follow up a few times to get things moving. I spoke with the Team Director, Team Manager, HR Manager, and the Hotel General Manager. It was a bit intimidating, but the interviews were direct and informative, with clear expectations set for the role.
- Can you tell us about your previous experience?
- Could you describe your personality and how it impacts your work?
- What is your preferred work style?
