I went through an agency for this role. I talked to 3 team members, and they all seemed pretty positive about my technical skills. It felt like they really needed someone quickly. But then, in the last 1-on-1 with the CTO, they seemed uninterested. The final reason I didn't get it was because I wasn't 'a cultural fit,' which neither me nor the agency understood. Super frustrating.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

It was a lengthy process, typical for senior roles at startups, spanning about six weeks, possibly affected by August vacations. I spoke with five individuals, including the recruiter, who was very communicative and helpful. I was also impressed with the senior leadership. After being informed I would speak with more people from the investment firm, I learned the next day that they had changed their strategy and would no longer be hiring for the role. Having experience with startups, I understand the significant investment in hiring a CTO. It's unfortunate the commitment to filling the position wasn't solid; perhaps I should have addressed this directly with the CEO. Based on Glassdoor reviews, 'changes in direction' seem common, suggesting this company might face challenges with strategic consistency, which is a shame given their startup potential and unique product. I wish them well and hope they can find clarity, as their product has broad appeal.

HR reached out the day after I applied and said she would set up a hiring manager interview for later that week. She asked if Friday at 10am worked, and I said yes. But then HR never sent a calendar invite to confirm, and I never heard from her again. They were the ones who suggested the time and said they wanted me to interview. It was unprofessional not to follow up and say if they still wanted to interview me or suggest a different time.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • I never got to interview because the HR person never confirmed a time after saying they wanted to interview me.
