First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Silverfern Group.
Sales Representative
It was three interviews total. The first one was short with basic questions, and they quickly explained the company and their expectations. I was then invited to a second interview, which involved a job shadow. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the person I shadowed was great and showed me the ropes of direct marketing. It was effective; the person I was with helped a few people that day. It wasn't the most glamorous job to start, but they seemed serious about opportunities for growth, which is what I wanted. The person I shadowed shared what they've learned so far and seemed really enthusiastic, which was a good sign. After spending the day with them, I had a third interview with a manager. It seemed to go well, and I got the job. We'll see how it goes, you have to start somewhere!
- What life lessons have you learned that will contribute to your success?
Sales Representative
I would recommend avoiding this company. I applied for what they advertised as a Customer Service role, and got called back in 3 hours, which seemed a bit fast. But, their Glassdoor reviews were great (though I suspect they might be fake now) and their website seemed professional. I set up an interview for the next day. When I arrived, there were 4 other candidates waiting, which made me think they have a high turnover rate. They informed me during the interview that the role was actually for entry-level sales, not Customer Service as posted. They mentioned a 3-round interview process, with the second round involving a 6-hour field shadowing with a sales rep. At this point, I realized the job was door-to-door sales. They were vague about job specifics initially, saying I'd know more if I advanced. I pushed for details, and they eventually confirmed it was a door-to-door sales position. Unless you're specifically looking for that type of work, I'd advise against applying. It felt like a waste of my time that could have gone towards better job opportunities.
- What do you think is the most crucial characteristic of an effective leader?
Sales Representative
I had a sit down with one of the directors, Derek I believe the first day and was asked a few questions to figure out if I would make the cut. The next day they had me come into their main office for like an hour or two that I spent with an account manager who broke down the inside of their business in more detail.
- Who has been your biggest influence and what lessons have you learned from them.
