The interview process was pretty straightforward, but they asked me about salary very early on before I was ready to negotiate. They also made it sound like I needed to start right away, so I rearranged my entire life to move across the country within two weeks. Then, they had apparently messed up communicating with the Forest Service about my start date, and no one was expecting me for another week. That wasn't a great first impression, and honestly, things only went downhill from there.

They asked for a quick rundown of my education and work history, my knowledge of geospatial stuff, and what I'm good at. It was a pretty chill, laid-back process. They want you to ask questions and really dig into anything you haven't done before, show you're eager to learn, and give them an idea of how you'll fit in and add to the team.

Applied online and got an interview invite 2 days later. I met with the HR manager and the hiring manager. It was for a temporary, contract role, which wasn't mentioned in the job description at all! I decided to go through with the interview since I'd already driven an hour, but I was confused why they'd expect someone to leave a full-time job for a temporary gig. It felt like a bait and switch. At the end, they handed me a 10-page application to complete.

I had an interview with the contractor and then was hired right away to use ESRI software for parcel mapping. It was a good experience because I learned more about the company and why my skills are valuable. Overall, it was a great experience.
