It's a long process but totally worth it. Once the local Corp Officer offers you the job, a review board for that division will decide if you get the position. They do a really thorough background check, which is super important since you're working in a family thrift store with people who are struggling. The Store Manager has to get the diversity of people they'll meet every day and needs to be mentally and emotionally steady. The whole thing can take anywhere from 30 to 60 days.

The interview process was a bit unusual. Instead of a typical Q&A, they took me on a store tour, asking for my comments and thoughts as we went. After the tour, there was a phone interview that happened more than a week later, followed by another week to finalize the background check.

I had an interview with an HR employee. She was very personable and didn't use a script. It felt like a genuine conversation, like we'd known each other for a long time. When we got to talking about the job, I felt comfortable sharing my accomplishments and my future goals, both personal and professional.
