Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Salvation Army.
Sales Assistant
It was a group interview, in a classroom type environment. The group interview included activities such as how you would sell an item, pricing items and sorting clothing. The group interview was followed by an individual interview, asking mainly about previous experience and how you would deal with difficult situations in the shop environment.
- How would you handle a challenging situation that arises in the store?
Retail Sales Assistant
Phone interview then a face to face with the store manager. The manager was keen but the process was a bit messy. During the face to face, I met other staff and saw the store operations. The manager needed help filling out the interview forms. There was also a slow response from the retail manager for an online screening interview (2 rounds). It seemed overly complicated for what the job is. I'm probably overqualified but I love retail sales, so I ended up taking a job with another charity.
- Can you work on weekends and holidays?
Sales Assistant
I had a chat with the HR Manager and Shop Manager. They were both really nice and helpful. They asked me some questions and then told me about the job and what benefits come with it. It was a good experience, and I feel I could reapply for future jobs.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- What's your understanding of The Salvation Army Trading Company?
- Who do you consider our main competitors?
