Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The RealReal.
Sales
I had two good interviews with the recruiter and a Director. The second interview started late, and the interviewer spent 20 minutes of the 30-minute call talking about themselves and the company. I didn't have much time to answer or ask questions. I waited for weeks to hear back, and then I was ghosted. I tried to follow up, but heard nothing back and eventually gave up. It was very unprofessional and showed a lack of respect for my time, especially since I took the time to prepare. It takes less than a minute to send a rejection email.
- Given that the interviewer was late and spent 20 out of 30 minutes talking about themselves and the company, I had very little time to answer questions or ask any myself.
Sales
I had a phone screening and then a more in-depth call. After that, I was interviewed by a few people who wanted to drill down on my background to see if there was a clear fit.
- How do you feel about working in a startup environment where things change frequently?
- Can you identify opportunities for improvement, present those ideas, and then implement them?
Sales Representative
The interview process began with a screener call to discuss my interest and background. This was followed by a second interview with two individuals, one identified as a regional director and the other likely from HR. This 45-minute meeting felt a bit excessive. I found it surprising that the job posting doesn't detail the bonus structure. To meet the expectations, you'd need to sell about 1200 items monthly, with a maximum earning potential of an extra $2000 per month on top of the base salary, capping the total annual earnings at $65,000. The role involves making outbound calls in the morning, attending three in-person appointments, and then handling the packaging and mailing of goods.
- Can you describe your experience with outbound and cold calling?
- What experience do you have with Salesforce or other data entry programs?
- What is your experience with luxury items?
