First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The North West Company.
Store Manager
It was a long but well-organized process. Started with an online company orientation, followed by two online interviews. Everything was straightforward and easy. References were needed. The interviewers seemed knowledgeable about the company overall, but not necessarily about day-to-day store operations.
- Can you tell me about your experience with community relations?
Department Manager
The interview process was overall smooth, well-organized, and simple to follow. They communicated clearly at every step, and the interviewers were nice and made me feel comfortable. It was a good experience where I could show my skills and what I'm qualified for.
- Can you describe how you manage a team when faced with pressure or difficult circumstances?
- Tell me about your approach to leading a team through challenging situations.
- How do you handle team conflicts, particularly when under pressure?
Grocery Supervisor
Applied on line, got a call from a company rep in two days. He told me about the position, pay, and relocation details. Two days later, a recruiter called. We had a casual chat, and then a skype interview was set up for the next week. I asked about the company's approach to northern food insecurity and community concerns. I might have set my salary expectations too high, given it's a remote northern role with unique challenges. Got feedback that my experience wasn't the right fit for the position.
- What do you know about NWC?
- Why do you think you are the best fit for this job?
- What's your understanding of this role?
Data Analytics Senior Manager
My positive impression of this company turned negative after my experience interviewing for this role. Poor interview experience from the hiring manager and hiring team around communication, expectations and timelines. Interview experience is asking open ended questions and giving no response as you try and pinpoint what they need in this unicorn role. Advise the HR team to work with the hiring manager to listen to external recruiters advice, as they have prevented multiple candidates away from this role. Candidates would be wise to read recent news on NWC before applying.
- How would you handle stakeholders who don't have much data experience?
