Account Executive
This is a door-to-door sales job for Direct Electric, focused on convincing business owners to switch their electricity provider to save money. While a salary is possible later, the role is commission-based, with potential for higher earnings. The interview starts with a meeting with the manager (referred to as President/CEO/Owner) to discuss your resume and experience, focusing on your aspirations for growth and leadership. You're then expected to shadow a top Account Executive for a 'shadow day'. This involves a personality test, followed by going into the field to visit businesses, attempting to meet with owners and present the service. Much of this day involves observing the AE face rejection. The AE will also interview you throughout the day, asking about your self-description, how you'd handle specific scenarios, and your approach to training new hires. Upon returning, you'll complete a form about the day and some basic marketing concepts, followed by another personality test. Your progression to the final stage, which resembles the first interview, depends on your personality test results and the recommendation of the AE you shadowed.
- Why are you a good fit for this job compared to other people?
- How do you feel about moving up in the company and managing people below you?
- Describe yourself.
Account Manager
I had a first interview with the president of the company, which was really motivating. I made it clear I wasn't interested in sales or earning commission. The second day involved shadowing an account manager from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM (originally scheduled until 4:30 PM), observing their field work. This part was tedious and unpaid, serving as a reality check after the positive first impression. The overall process consists of three parts.
- Tell me about yourself.
- On a scale of 1 to 10, how competitive are you?
- What experiences do you have that make you a good fit for this position?
Account Representative
It was a pretty straightforward process. I submitted my application online and then got a call within two days for an interview with the hiring manager. We talked more about the role. The interview was basic; they explained the company and what a typical day looks like. Since all the roles are entry-level, this is where everyone starts, regardless of their prior experience.
- Are you able to advance from an entry-level position to a management role within a year?
Sales Representative
It's a 3-step process, which feels pretty thorough for a smaller company. First, a quick 20-minute chat with an exec to go over your resume. Then, a longer second step where you spend a good chunk of the day with an executive, getting a feel for what a day in the life is like here. The third step usually means you're one of the few left and likely headed for an offer.
- Have you worked in direct sales before?
