First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Mission Continues.
Platoon Leader
It started with a good chat with two team members. They were nice and asked about my background. Then it got serious with a panel of 7-8 people. I had to do a pre-interview exercise and come up with two ideas for problems. The interview itself was a 20-minute presentation of my ideas, followed by 10 minutes of Q&A. After that, there was a 40-minute session where everyone on the committee asked questions about my skills related to the job description. It felt tough but I think it went well, they even said I was who they were looking for. I thought that was it, but then a few days later, after work hours, they asked me to prep an elevator pitch for a presentation the very next day. Even though I tried my best on short notice, I didn't get the job. The start was great, but the end had bad communication and changing plans. It was a bummer to get good feedback all along, then get hit with a surprise extra round and rejected without knowing why. I'd suggest being more upfront about the hiring process and what the timelines and expectations are.

- What is your unique selling proposition for this role?
- Prepare a short pitch about yourself.
Senior Manager
The interview process is pretty simple and has three main steps. It starts with an Application Review. Then, there's a First Interview with both the Recruiter and the Hiring Manager. The Second/Final Interview is with the Hiring Manager and a Hiring Committee made up of 2-3 Staff Members. Oh, and you have to complete a Thought Exercise Assignment, which didn't take too long, just a few hours.
- Tell me about a high point in your previous role.
- Tell me about a low point in your previous role.
Project Manager
It was a 5 step hiring process. The first step was a project plan, which took me about 5-6 hours to finish. All interviews after that were phone or video calls until the very last one. The final meeting was set up by the ED, and I was invited for a casual chat over coffee, which I assumed was for the job offer, but it turned out to be another interview. The whole thing took a couple of months. I was pretty bummed about the last step and the lack of clear communication throughout.
- Could you prepare a project plan?
Developer
I applied online and heard back about two weeks later to set up a video call with the hiring manager, but with very little notice. The interview was pretty standard, except for one part where they asked me to grade how former direct reports performed at the start and end of their time there, using an A-E scale. The hiring manager said we'd hear back that Friday, but I didn't. I ended up emailing them about a week later and got a message a few days after that saying I wasn't moving forward. It felt like I was only interviewed because I'm a veteran, but then they couldn't even give me the update they promised.
- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
- Can you provide an A-E rating for the initial and final performance of previous direct reports?
