First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Minnesota Star Tribune.
Media Operations Coordinator
The interview process was really simple. They asked about what makes you stand out from other candidates, why you're interested in the company, and about times in your career when you faced challenges and how you dealt with them. It felt more like a chat than an interview.

Advertising Intern
The interview process was pretty straight forward. I had a phone screening first and then set up a following interview for a week or so later via email. There ended up being several scheduling errors on their end which delayed my interview process. Eventually I met with three managers who were knowledgable and friendly.
- What makes you want to pursue a career in advertising?
Accounts Receivable Manager
I got an email back quick after applying and responded fast to schedule an interview. I fit in an interview on Christmas Eve because that's when they could do it. We really hit it off, it went great. The recruiter set up a phone screen with the hiring manager for Jan 2nd. But, the hiring manager cancelled that morning saying they weren't ready. We rescheduled for the next week. When I met the hiring manager, it was clear they hadn't done many interviews before. They asked me a few questions about situations that only applied to their specific, obscure print ERP, which I doubt anyone has experience with. I felt like I had to lead the whole interview. They didn't ask any questions about my past experience. A director was also on the call, but they seemed busy with something else on another monitor. I sent a thank you email, hoping to talk again to really explain why I'd be a good fit. Then, I was ghosted. I reached out to HR, who had previously said I set a high bar and would be a top choice. They eventually sent a vague rejection email and didn't give feedback when I asked. The whole experience was disappointing.
- Can you explain how you would apply cash in xyz software?
Advertising Coordinator
The interview process was smooth and not intimidating. They made it clear that the people there are really kind and genuinely want to support one another. They rated me on paper, but it felt more like a conversation than an actual interview. It was welcoming and not like it's super easy to get the interview spot.
- Tell me about a project you are proud of.
