First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Matian Firm, APC.
Immigration Attorney
The interview itself was alright, but it's clear the company's disorganized. They seem to hire just anyone. I'm being asked to essentially babysit paralegals and check their work on top of my own duties, which feels like doing two jobs for the pay of one. Supervising paralegals isn't in my job description, and they shouldn't try to convince you it's normal. Cooperation is expected, but not training them to do their jobs.
- Tell me about your experience in immigration.
- If you speak Spanish, can you role-play a client scenario with me?
- What's your experience level in immigration, and can you do a Spanish role-play with a client if you're bilingual?
Recruiting Assistant
It started with a phone call, then moved to an in-person meeting! The steps were very clear and precise, and they followed up with texts. You'll get reminders about when you're supposed to be there.
- Can you tell me about your language abilities?
- What are your writing skills like?
Immigration Paralegal
I spoke with three people during the interview: an attorney and two paralegals. They walked me through their office's procedures and then asked me about my past experience with specific tasks. The conversation shifted back and forth between them explaining the job duties and me providing examples of how I've handled certain responsibilities, like managing cases and conducting client intakes.
- Since your background doesn't include prior paralegal experience, how do you think it has prepared you for this position?
- Can you confidently state that you will be able to perform the duties required of a paralegal?
Receptionist
The interview was super chill and they also took the time to learn about my background, which was nice. It was kind of weird though, they seemed surprised when I asked them questions at the end. Honestly, I think they could do better with how they reach out to candidates. I had to chase them to find out where I stood with my application, and it really shouldn't be like that.
- Tell me more about yourself.
- What do you think about our communication process?
