I interviewed for a role and after the phone screen, I scheduled a virtual interview. I got ready for it and joined, but was told I wasn't a good fit and my salary expectations were too high, right after one question. It felt like this could have been an email instead of a video call.

A recruiter from an agency reached out about the role, giving me the lowdown on the company and what the job entailed. They asked about my salary expectations and mentioned KCL was in a rush. The recruiter said there would be two interviews. Later, they emailed to see if I'd do an edit test before talking to the bosses. I was okay with it, but then BAM! It was an "edit test" with 3 assignments. I asked if I should pick one, but they wanted all of them and offered a $100 gift card. I grudgingly did them over the weekend because they took forever. When I asked for feedback, the recruiter said they'd pass on a meeting and just send the gift card. I pushed for clarification because it was so unclear. The recruiter finally said the assignment wasn't what they were after. I was pretty ticked I spent hours on it with zero real feedback, and they never even sent the gift card.

The interview process was really thorough. First, I had a phone call with the recruiter, then with HR. After that, I spoke with both owners. They then flew me out to their corporate office where I met with the company owners, managers, and some people who would be my potential direct reports. Everyone was really welcoming and happy to answer any questions I had.
