First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Jed Foundation.
Director
I applied in mid-September and got contacted by HR about 3 weeks later to set up a preliminary interview. The interview was on Zoom and led by a contracted HR person. It went well, with the HR person saying I 'checked all the boxes' and seemed really excited about me, mentioning the role had been tough to fill because of the specific skills and background they needed. We wrapped up by them saying they'd follow up by the end of the next week, and they also asked for more info for the hiring manager. But then, I heard nothing more from HR. I sent two follow-up emails which went unanswered, and I only recently saw on the company website that the position was filled. Honestly, the lack of communication and transparency was really unprofessional for such a well-known and important nonprofit.

Director of FP&A
It was a disorganized interview experience with a mix of nonprofit and startup vibes. The first call felt pointless, with the recruiter just going over the org chart and asking about my resume, not like a typical screen at all. They acted like they sourced candidates using AI, which was odd. Then I met the hiring manager to talk about the role, which was pretty standard. The next round involved other employees and included behavioral and culture fit questions. In the final round, the hiring manager revealed the role wasn't what was posted. After that, they went silent for over two weeks and then said they hired someone else. The pay and benefits were also disappointing, even for a nonprofit.
- Tell me about a time you had to handle a difficult conversation or situation at work, and how you guided someone through a process they didn't understand.
Campus Ambassador
I met with two people for about 30 minutes. They were personable and asked a lot of questions. They were transparent about the role and its salary- although they said it was not negotiable. I thought it went very well but I never heard back. I emailed the two people right after with a friendly thank you and then followed up several weeks later. They both seemed to ignore the emails as I only got a cold automated rejection 4+ weeks later. Very odd.
- Can you share your experience in this field?
Intern
I had a good experience interviewing. It was just one in person interview round and that was all. Most of the questions were basic, but be ready for 2-3 specific ones related to work.
- Can you share an instance where you applied your problem-solving skills?
