First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Institutes.
Executive Assistant
I was contacted by a recruiter to set up a phone interview. After that, the recruiter passed me along to the hiring manager. If they liked me, we did a video interview with the hiring manager.
- What is your approach to managing tasks for multiple supervisors?
- How would you communicate to a manager that a current project demands more immediate attention than their assigned task?
Content Strategist
Started with a recruiter call, then had a call with the hiring manager, the VP, and another team member. It went through all 4 rounds but then I was ghosted. This place isn't open to change, diversity, or innovation. They explicitly said "yeah we're not flexible on work hours." It left a bad impression.
- Can you describe your approach to creating a content strategy?
Customer Service Representative
I applied on the website and HR contacted me. I had a phone interview with HR, and then I had to go in and meet with 3 managers and their manager all at once. It was a bit intimidating, but they were nice. After the interview, they said they would let me know about the decision. I think I got a call from HR the next day with an offer.
- What makes you the best candidate for this role?
Web Analyst
So I talked to a recruiter first, and they pretty much said the hiring team is really picky, but they seemed to think I might be someone who could get through. So I got scheduled with the next person pretty quickly. She was nice and easy to talk to, and the questions didn't feel super tricky, but then, like someone else mentioned, I just got ghosted. She had mentioned that if I moved forward, it would be a long process with many interviews. It was supposed to be remote, but she said there would be some travel required for different things. I got the vibe that the company, including the person I interviewed with, isn't very modern in their work approach. They seem to really value in-person interaction, working 9-5 (east coast time), and spending half the day in meetings, which felt kind of traditional and inflexible. I think a few things might have disqualified me, and it wasn't about my ability to do the job, which seems to be what they struggle to find – someone with all the skills they want. I'm pretty sure I came across as not wanting to be in meetings all the time because we discussed that a lot. I asked about it, and we talked about it quite a bit.
- Tell me about a challenging situation you faced at work and your current approach to handling it.
- What aspects of a job do you dislike or want to avoid?
- Can you discuss your background and career aspirations?
