First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Graduate Center.
IT Manager
It started with a skills review then a group interview. The second stage was an interview with the Manager and VP, and also some workers who would report to me. They mentioned being Equal Opportunity Employers but asked about my "background (ethnicity)". I suspect they might be tracking quotas for minority hiring.
- What's your approach to managing a project you're responsible for delivering?
Program Officer
Got an email about 3 weeks after applying for the Academic Program Officer role, and was invited for an interview. Upon arrival, I had to wait about 20 minutes because they were behind schedule. When I entered the conference room, there were five men and a woman on a screen via Skype. They said the interview would be 15 minutes long and told me there wouldn't be a second interview because they needed someone quickly. It was a very odd interview, not much time to ask questions and very little discussion about my background, just a few sample questions.
- What would you do if the registration system goes down on the first day and students are complaining?
College Assistant
It was pretty straightforward with easy questions. I was interviewed by two people and the whole process lasted about 30 minutes. They asked me about my background, and my experience with databases and CRM. Also, they inquired about the management style I am comfortable with.
- Could you start by telling me about yourself?
- Can you elaborate on your past experiences?
- What can you tell me about your previous job projects?
