It was a pretty long process. First, I had a call with HR, and then I had a few interviews with the team, which took about 3-4 hours in total. Each of those interviews had 2-3 people from the team interviewing me. They asked a lot of questions to see if I would fit in with the company culture.

I had an interview with 5 male Caucasian administrators who seemed to have no intention of hiring me, despite my strong work history and a Master's degree in gerontology. The lunch was apparently to gauge my 'fit,' but I suspect my experience and education were intimidating. My ethnicity might have also been a factor. They mostly talked amongst themselves about softball, barely including me in the conversation. It felt like they were just checking a box by interviewing me. A friend of mine, also Hispanic, had the same experience with the same group, and we both felt discriminated against.

Behavioral Technical Case

I went through 3 interviews for this role. The first two were onsite in AZ. The first one was a quick chat with the President and COO, though the President was pretty distracted and had to leave the room a few times. The second interview was with some people visiting from CA. It was mostly about culture fit, but since the current Controller was there, there were some technical questions too. Then, I was flown out to CA for a day to meet the team at headquarters. The follow-up after that was a bit of a letdown. I didn't hear anything for a couple of weeks, so I emailed and was told the President was out sick but would get back to me. A few more weeks went by, and when I followed up again, the admin apologized for the lack of response and let me know I didn't get the job because they were looking for someone with a different background. They said they'd keep me in mind if anything changes.

Behavioral

I had an in-person interview at two of their facilities in Pueblo, CO. The pros were that the facility was great, my potential co-workers seemed very friendly and work-oriented, and the patient population included post-acute rehab (many on vents), SNF, and a lock-down wing (for dementia/Alzheimer's). There weren't as many administrative hurdles if I needed new or more therapy equipment. The cons were that due to fewer administrative hurdles, more paperwork fell on me. Also, there's a lack of a solid mentorship program. I interviewed well and they offered me the job a couple of hours after I left. They gave me time to consider the offer, but they rescinded it once I tried to negotiate the salary well before the deadline they gave me. They offered a very low hourly rate (which Glassdoor and Payscale suggest is what their COTAs make) when current OTs make between $38-$44/hr. I feel their 'bottom line' is more important than their employees.
