First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Conference Board.
Member Development Specialist
It started with a screening call, followed by two to three virtual interviews. Then, I was invited to meet several team members in person. The interviews felt very conversational, and I never felt like I was being tricked. They were really responsive and open about everything, and I got a lot of good feedback. A few people even implied I was close to getting the job. After the in-person interviews, though, there was silence for weeks with no info on what was next. I sent polite emails to HR asking about a timeline, but didn't get a helpful answer. After about a month, I got an email saying I didn't get the job. I was really struggling to find work then, so I emailed back to see if I could be considered for the Associate position. An HR person called me, apologized a lot for just sending an email instead of calling to let me down, and promised they'd call me the next day about the Associate role, saying I had a good shot at it. Weeks passed again with no word. Eventually, I got another email saying they'd filled the position. I politely asked for feedback via email, but never heard back. The whole thing really affected my morale and was a low point in a long and tough job search.
- Can you discuss your background in sales?
Digital Designer
I applied online and then had a virtual meeting. It was a conversational meeting with some standard questions about my experience and my willingness to work weekends and overtime for this "Think Tank" of the over-privileged. Based on reviews and the interview, it seemed like I'd be working for soul-less vampires. It's weird they call it a "Digital Designer" role when you'd do a bit of everything, including print. They probably do that to justify the low salary for the work. A bit disappointed I didn't get to work for the oligarchs who advise companies to lay off workers to save money for their board members.
- Are you okay with working in the office and on weekends?
Digital Design Manager
So I had this initial phone screening, then a virtual chat with my direct boss to be. After that, I went in person for four different interviews: one with my potential coworkers, one with the people I'd be managing, another with some other colleagues, and then one more with my direct supervisor. The last step was an interview with the head of the department. After all that, they told me they didn't have the budget for a full-time hire. About a month later, they called back to see if I'd be interested in a freelance role, but I'd have to interview again since it had been a while. I decided to withdraw my application at that point.
- Can you describe your experience managing within matrixed organizational structures?
- What are your strategies for navigating and influencing slow-moving organizations?
Director
I interviewed with TCB and experienced a process marked by honesty, transparency, and passion. The HR team was incredibly helpful, addressing all my questions, and working with the recruitment team felt more like a collaboration than a business deal. This experience significantly eased my decision to join the company. Among the many interviews I had during my job search, their recruitment team stood out for being diligent and accommodating of my demanding schedule. I highly recommend them.
- Can you describe a challenging situation you encountered, your approach to it, and the final result?
