Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Choice Program.
Community Service Learning Fellow
The interview process was split into two parts: an in-person interview with three staff members, and shadowing field work. Everyone involved in the interview process was great and passionate about the work.
- What issues or policies do you feel you need to gain more knowledge on?
Service Coordinator
The group interview was panel-style and it was comforting that there were other candidates present. Each person took turns answering the interview question and it was much less intimidating than a one-on-one interview.
- What are three things that make a great team?
Youth Counselor
I applied and got a call pretty fast, like within a week. The first step was a Skype interview, which was actually a group interview with other candidates. We talked about how to handle situations with kids and the daily stuff at the Choice Program and as a counselor. It went on for about two hours. After that, they called me to move on to the shadowing part, which was pretty cool. It involves a lot of driving around, but it seemed like a fun, albeit busy, job. I didn't end up taking the job because it was just too far, plus they mentioned occasional drives to Baltimore, which is a significant distance even from the office.
- Can you share an instance where you successfully built a team and describe your approach?
