It was a pretty straightforward interview process. I had a panel interview with a mixed group of interviewers who were diverse in colour and gender. The interview was in the early afternoon and lasted about 45 minutes. It wrapped up with them asking me why I was interested in the position and what I believed I could contribute.

The whole application thing took about 7 months. The selection itself was a 2-day event with a bunch of assessments. We had an ice breaker and a team building exercise where we had to overcome an obstacle using different equipment. The test was pretty straightforward and basically shows if you're a good fit for the job. The staff were nice and gave good advice during the day.

First, you gotta have the right grades to even think about applying. Then, you'll take a 'BARB' test, which is basically a mental agility test to figure out what jobs in the Army would suit you best. After that, you need to pass a basic fitness test – gotta run a mile and a half in under 11:30 minutes, and do a certain number of sit-ups and push-ups (this depends on your gender). They'll also give you a medical exam to make sure you're healthy enough to serve. The final step is an interview where you get to pick which part of the Army you want to be a part of.
