First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Brewer-Garrett Company.
Energy Engineer
The entire hiring process spanned over two months, involving interactions with eight different people. During this period, I was asked to complete three assessments: one focused on math, another an IQ test, and a third a personality evaluation. Unfortunately, three scheduled meetings didn't happen as planned because the interviewers were double-booked or they just didn't show up. Despite meeting great people, the drawn-out process was frustrating, especially since it ended in rejection due to insufficient qualifications, even though I applied for an entry-level role.
- Can you describe a time you faced a problem and, in hindsight, explain how you would approach it differently?
- Describe a problem you encountered and how you would change your approach if you could tackle it again.
- Tell me about a situation where you had to solve a problem. What would you do differently now?
HR Manager
The people on the team were great, and I had a really good interview experience overall. The management team I met with were all super welcoming and professional. They did a good job of trying to get to know me as a person rather than just asking the typical interview questions. Even though I didn't get the job, I'd love to work at this company in the future.
- What do you think is the most crucial part of HR?
Software Developer
The interview process started with a recruiter call, which seems to be the standard way they bring people in. This call lasted about half an hour. A few days later, there was another half-hour interview with some company folks. These interviewers were dressed formally in suits, which felt a bit more corporate than what I'd expect for a software developer role. They were engineers, but not software engineers, so while they were technical, they couldn't really answer specific questions about software development at the company.
- Are you more of a developer who builds new things, keeps existing things running, or troubleshoots and repairs things?
Sales
So I found them through a recruiter. The next step was an interview at their office, which would have been my second interview, but with a different person. I didn't get a callback, but honestly, I didn't want one at all.
- The interviewer's attitude was the hard part, not the questions. He was rude, condescending, and kept interrupting me mid-sentence.
