First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Brattle Group.
Associate
We did all the interviews over Zoom, both the first and second rounds. First, they'll email you to figure out a good time. Round one is pretty much behavioral, and they might ask you to go over your resume with them. It's only about an hour long. You'll find out about the final interviews in about a week. The final interviews are technical and behavioral, with several principals and associates, and you'll have to present your dissertation. The whole thing takes about 5 hours.
- Can you tell me about your dissertation?
- What made you interested in working for Brattle?
- Describe your experience managing a project, such as the one you mentioned.

The interview had two rounds. First was a video call with an HR manager, asking about my background and interest in economic consulting, and office location preferences. I got a call within a week about a second round. For the second round, they flew me out to my preferred office. I interviewed with analysts, had lunch with associates, and then a technical interview with a principal where I had to explain a research project, mostly to see if I could explain technical stuff to non-experts. After lunch, I gave a job talk using my dissertation material, but got interrupted by questions and side discussions. I met with another HR manager and a final principal. It was a good experience, everyone was really nice, but I didn't get feedback because of a COVID-19 hiring freeze, which was a bummer after preparing so much.
- Can you tell us about your background?
- What's your reason for pursuing economic consulting?
- What were your favorite and least favorite aspects of your previous role?
Associate
I had an initial 30-minute on-campus interview with an Associate and an HR rep. This was followed by an all-day interview at the office with people at various levels, from analysts up to principals. The interviews were pretty relaxed, and everyone I spoke with was great. They asked some case study type questions, but it was mostly behavioral or just discussing my background. The rejection afterwards was strange though. I was disappointed, but also confused by the feedback, which didn't seem to line up with what was discussed during the interviews. It felt like a lot of their time investment to fly me out just for that. That soured the experience for me, and the reasons they gave didn't really match the circumstances well.
- Can you talk about a time you used a data set and explain your approach to quantitative problems?
