First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Architect's Newspaper.
Events Marketing Manager
So there were three interviews total. The first one was with the Business Operations Manager, who's in HR, and another employee from the team. Then the second interview was with the Associate Publisher and after that, the Publisher. All the interviews were done either over the phone or on Zoom.
- Can you tell me about your skills relevant to Events Marketing?
Print and Web Designer
I had a phone interview and then two in-person interviews. The first in-person interview was with some of the team members, and they were really nice. They didn't ask super deep questions, and I was feeling pretty good about the job and the company because the people seemed great and their product quality is good. However, the second in-person interview with the owner changed my perspective. The owner came off as a bit cold and unfriendly with a negative vibe, which was a red flag for me and made me less excited. Then I saw reviews from former employees about bad management, which didn't really surprise me after that second interview.
- Can you describe your workload in previous roles?
Marketing Manager
The interview process was pretty straightforward, but just a heads-up. The CEO, who calls herself the "Creative Director", is a terrible person. She can't run a business well, so she overworks her employees to cover her own issues. She's just giving herself titles now.
- Can you introduce yourself?
Graphic Designer
Got a quick reply after sending in my resume. Then I chatted with some really nice folks from the team. We talked about the kind of projects I've worked on and what I'd be doing here.
- Can you walk me through your portfolio, explaining the pieces, your reasoning behind them, and your creative process?
