I spoke with the hiring manager at Adaptavist Group for a Software Developer position. They first told me about the company, what they do, and what they're working on. Since I'd been watching them on LinkedIn, I could talk about their recent projects, making it more of a back-and-forth. Then, the manager looked at my background and asked about my past work, including the tools and tech I've used. The job needs React.js and other things not really on my resume, and the interviewer noted that. But they really liked my experience with clients and how I’ve managed tasks before. It was a good, informative chat that gave me a better sense of Adaptavist’s vibe and what they’re looking for, and also let me show off what I’m good at and where I can improve.

Interview was conducted over zoom. The interviewer seemed friendly but I felt they were incompetent. The questions asked didn't seem to align with the job description, and I questioned if the interviewer had expertise in the subject matter. It was surprising because they were hiring for a senior role but asked a very simple loop question, whereas I was anticipating a discussion about system architecture as outlined in the JD.

The hiring journey was smooth and folks kept me in the loop. It kicked off with a quick chat with HR about my background and why I was interested in Adaptavist. Then, I had a take-home coding challenge, which was a straightforward problem-solving task, not some super complex algorithm thing. The last part was a two-stage virtual interview: first, a technical chat with two engineers where we went over my take-home solution, talked about design decisions, and did a small whiteboard coding exercise. After that, there was a behavioural/cultural chat with a team lead and a senior dev, where they asked about teamwork, how I learn, and my passion for tech. The whole thing from applying to getting the offer took around 3.5 weeks.
