Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Access Group (UK).
Software Engineer
Went through several rounds of interviews, then got an updated salary proposal. After that, there was no reply. My experience is that recruiters only reach out and respond when your process is ongoing. They stop liaising or even notifying you once your process is no longer being considered at their side, at any step of the process.
- Tell me about performing unit testing in a given scenario.
Software Engineer
It starts with the usual application stuff, then a one-way video interview where you record yourself answering 7 questions. These questions are mostly technical, like fixing bad code or explaining terms, plus some about your tech opinions. If you pass that, you go to a half-day assessment centre. This includes a LeetCode-style technical test, a group activity where you design something high-level and then present it, and an interview with two people (one in person, one on a call). The technical test is standard if you know LeetCode/Codewars, but watch out for the limited language options even if they say 'any'. The group activity involves designing an app at a high level and presenting it. The interview questions were pretty standard and the same for everyone, though a bit long-winded. They seem to really care about personality and culture fit, not just tech skills.
- Why did you choose to apply to Access?
- Can you tell me about a time you had to plan a project, detailing your process and the results?
- What's your preferred programming language, what are its downsides, and how does it stack up against others?
Software Engineering Team Lead
Got a one hour interview with the head of engineering. Had to answer some generic technical and HR questions, and also ask my own questions about the role. It was a pretty standard and boring interview process.
- Can you give a quick summary of your career?
- Tell me about some AGILE projects you've worked on.
- Regarding leadership, what experience do you have leading teams and projects?
