& Process

We had a virtual meeting over Zoom. It was a tag-team interview with a senior graduate assistant and the supervisor from the Dallas campus. They both asked questions. After we got through all the questions, I got to ask some questions and share info about the job.

It was a really great process, super smooth and easy. I liked that they let you talk freely and the application was easy. There was only one round of interviews and you usually hear back the same day whether they want to move forward with you.

I applied online and got an interview. After some brief communication they sent a link for an online interview via panel. I was uncomfortable throughout most of it. I had a few blue collar jobs in my work history that it felt like really grossed out my interviewers so much so that when I tried to make a joke about it they all kind of just noticeably cringed. The only male interviewer kept describing the position as being "the face of the school," which I'm almost sure was an insult on how I look. I'm more than qualified to do the job, but the impression I got was that they are looking for a twenty year old sorority girl and all others need not apply. Very degrading experience personally.

The interview process had 3 parts: first a phone call, then a Skype interview where it felt like I was facing a long table of interviewers, and finally an in-person stage. The in-person stage involved a small panel initially, followed by an open-ended presentation for a wide audience. Each stage had multiple people from the university. In the final stage, I met individually with the CTO and two peer directors before presenting twice for 45 minutes each. Afterwards, a director gave me a 2-hour campus tour to help me understand the facilities and meet potential direct reports. The CTO meeting was only about 30-40 minutes, which was a concern given the CISO reports directly to the CTO.
