First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
Administrative Assistant
The interview was via Zoom, despite the pandemic. Overall, it went well. It had about 6 people on the panel. Talk about being nervous! They have roughly 10-15 standardized TTUHSC questions. Each takes a turn, and you have the platform to ask questions at the end. Once done, they all collaborate and make a decision. After that, they make an offer, accept or not. It can take about a month after you apply or interview to start.
- Can you tell us about yourself and your current role?
Director
The interview had two parts, back-to-back. First, I met with the head of the department. He asked good questions, all about my conceptual overview. He was interested in my ability to develop relationships, which is key for this role. Then, I went to another room to interview with the person currently in the position and the Assistant Dean. They asked more questions to get to know me and also gave me a chance to ask them questions. I was trying to figure out more about the job (the initial description was brief) and what skills would be best to have to be successful. At the end of the day, they told me the rest of the process involves maybe two more visits. They hoped to make a decision after that. It was a positive experience overall, and I finished step one. The people I met seemed really nice and genuine.
- Could you describe your experience with building relationships and how you collaborate with others?
- Do you find yourself enjoying numbers and details, or do you tend to get lost in them?
- What motivated you to apply for this role, and what about the job description caught your attention?
Research Associate
I think one of the panelists was really just looking for reasons to disqualify me. Some of the stuff he asked made it seem like he wasn't paying attention to what I'd already said. He really went hard on the 'weakness' question, and the other panelist, who was super nice, had to step in. They mentioned they needed to hire for the role ASAP. When I followed up a couple of weeks later, they told me they were still interviewing. I never got a response back.
- What would your previous managers say if I contacted them about you?
- Can you describe your strengths and weaknesses?
Business Assistant
They first called to schedule the interview, which included all senior directors and the management director. The interview was about 30 minutes. Then, I received another phone call for a temporary offer, which was based on a background check. This happened after my references were verified. After the background check was verified, the official offer was accepted.
- Can you tell me about your experience relevant to this role?
- What is your educational background?
- What skills do you possess that are applicable to this position?
