First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Texas State Optical.
Optician
I applied through indeed and got a call back about a week later. My first interview was with the General Manager and the Eye Doctor. They liked me and said I should hear back in a week. The following week, the District Manager called and asked for a second interview. I went in that Friday and it was a really nice experience. He told me I got the job and would call with an offer, but I'm still waiting for his call.
- What makes you a good fit for Texas State Optical?
- How would you handle an angry customer?
- What is your availability?
Optician
I applied to the Lockhart location and heard back quickly. The first interview was a group one, and the owner seemed rushed and unprepared, saying he was late for his son's practice and didn't know why he scheduled interviews. The second interview was also a group format, which was better as we could express ourselves, but we were asked the same questions, making it awkward. My questions about pay and schedule were brushed off. The third interview was an unpaid, working-interview three weeks later, where I was told to observe and ask my own questions. I tried to learn from employees, but without guidance, it felt useless. I was told a decision would be made by the end of the week. After no contact for a week, I emailed and called. A competitor told me the job was filled. Two weeks later, the office manager emailed to say they decided not to hire anyone. I felt my time was wasted.
- Besides what a competitor just said, what qualities do you think make a good manager?
Optician
I met with multiple people starting with the office manager, then to other fellow opticians, then to other associate doctors and lastly, the owner. It was a roughly 3 hour interview but I received an offer before leaving. Overall, good experience.
- Can you elaborate on your experience with selling premium frames and high-quality lenses?
Technician
Applied for the job and got a call back in under a week. Then I had two interviews, one with a manager and another with some doctors. They also had me do a working interview to check out how I interact with patients and employees.
- Can you share an instance where you had to manage a situation with an upset patient?
