Getting an intern/entry level position in the Texas House isn't simple, but it's doable. Start by using your social networks like LinkedIn and Facebook to see if you know anyone with Texas politics connections. If you're in school, work with counselors and professors who might have good connections. Take multiple copies of your resume and walk the halls. Go into each office and chat with the first person there about opportunities, don't just drop your resume and go. They're probably bored and want to talk (unless they're in session). You can also try writing in. Start as early as possible, ideally a few months before the session begins.

It was a really partisan interview process, with a lot of political questions. The office itself felt quite cold. The interview was a one-on-one setting. They asked a lot about travel, and even involved family members in the discussion. I also had to submit a writing sample, and they looked at my social media.
