First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Texas Children's Hospital.
Clinical Analyst
So, first thing was a phone screen with a recruiter, just to see if I was a good fit and check my background. Then I went in for an on-site interview. It was pretty quick, only about 30 minutes, and I talked to three people. They mostly asked behavioral questions, you know, using the STAR method, to see how I handle problems, work with others, and deal with tough stuff.
- Have you worked with the Epic EHR system before?
Financial Analyst
The whole thing took 3 months, starting with an initial interview, then a second one, and finally an offer. The first interview was with a manager, and the second one was with an assistant director and a director. I got the offer about a week after the second interview. It was mostly behavioral questions. The compensation was okay, and I did try to negotiate, but only got an extra 1k.
- Can you tell me about your strengths and weaknesses?
- What is your motivation for leaving your current company?
- Describe a situation where you had a conflict with a colleague and how you resolved it.
Nurse
The application process for the Nurse Residency Program was straightforward, but it's important to be patient as The Children's Hospital (TCH) can take a while to respond. I applied for the Summer 2024 cohort, which involved submitting a general application including a letter of recommendation, an essay, and my resume. I recommend having these documents prepared in advance. After submitting, you'll rank your unit preferences, with many residency positions typically available in the TMC. My timeline was: applied in February, received an interview invitation in March, and had my interview the last week of March. I received and accepted a job offer for my first-choice unit just a week after the interview.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- Describe a situation where you observed an incorrect task or procedure, how you addressed it, and the result.
- Recount an experience with a clinical case unfamiliar to you, detailing your approach to learning about the disease and your key takeaways.
Systems Analyst
I applied online and then a recruiter called me for a screening a few days later. They then emailed me some times for a virtual interview with the hiring manager. It was kind of hard to schedule though because they only gave like 1 or 2 days notice, which is tough when you're already working. The interview with the hiring manager seemed to go okay. But then I never heard back, so I emailed the recruiter for an update about 2 weeks later and they totally ghosted me. Super unprofessional from both the manager and recruiter, honestly. A quick rejection email wouldn't kill them.
- I was asked 10 S.T.A.R. questions by HR.
- The manager asked a few questions more specific to the actual position.
