& Process

I got an email for the application and then did a super day with two different members of the team. It was a pretty easy and straight forward process. The team members were all great to talk to and very nice.

I connected with a recruiter who was quick to schedule an interview for me within a week. The interview itself wasn't great though. The hiring manager skipped the pleasantries and immediately asked about my background, which felt a bit awkward. This company doesn't feel very established and seems to lack the structure of other firms I've seen. I got a rejection the very next day. The recruiter sent a nice, personal email afterward, which was the only good part. The interview process included a recruiter call, a technical screen, and ended with a background check and offer.

Over about three weeks, I interviewed with the corporate recruiter, the hiring manager, and a team member from the department. Each interview was about 30 minutes long. I don't know if 30 minutes was enough time to really talk about my skills and learn about the job, but I already knew the hiring manager and the department team member, so maybe they already knew my work. After the third interview, I reached out to the corporate recruiter a few days later to ask about where I stood. She replied the next day that she'd have feedback for me 'very soon.' After not getting this feedback for 8 days, I followed up again to ask if the position had been filled. I never heard back from that email either, and basically got ghosted. About 30 days after Texas Capital Bank last contacted me, I found out who got the job through mutual friends at my current company.

It was a weird, scammy interview process. It started with a normal 30-minute intro phone screen, then a second interview with the UX Lead. She mentioned a design challenge was next, but they were still figuring out the details. After that, I got another invite for a quick 15-minute chat about the design challenge specifics. I couldn't make it, so I asked them to just email the details. They called instead, saying it was 'easier.' Then things got really strange. Instead of a typical design challenge, they wanted me to create brand new designs for Texas Capital Bank's consumer division, including several web pages, a branding kit, and actual copywriting. When I asked for the details in writing, they refused, saying I should just take notes. This felt like a scam where they'd steal my designs. Plus, the job required being in the office 5 days a week, which is outdated.
