Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Tessian.
Business Development
I was introduced by an investor. My initial call was with Abs, and I quickly realized this was a company with strong potential, especially given the backing from both Accel and Balderton, which is uncommon for London-based companies. This was followed by two in-person interviews. The first was a general discussion, and the second required me to prepare a presentation. The whole experience was positive. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the company, even though I was considering other opportunities. Meeting more of the team confirmed that Tessian was the best fit for me.
- Can you describe your most difficult deal?
Business Development Manager
My interview experience was really bad. I talked to the CRO on Thursday night and he said he wanted to meet me in person. I got an interview request for Monday with a big task to do over the weekend. I showed up on Monday after working 3 days on it, and they said it was good. The interview had a role-play negotiation with a fake client and then questions from the CRO, a BDD, and a BDM. I thought it went well and they said I'd hear back in 2 days. Nothing happened for 4 days. I emailed the CRO but got no response. On day 5, I got a generic rejection email from HR. I emailed the CRO again for feedback, and then replied to the HR email. HR then said the CRO would get back to me with feedback. It's been over 8 weeks and I've heard nothing. Super disappointing. I expected at least a little feedback for the time I put in. It makes me wonder about the company culture.
- Can you tell me about your past sales experience?
- Walk me through your typical sales process.
- What sales techniques are you familiar with and have you used?
Business Development Associate
Recruited through Pareto, had a telephone interview, then an assessment day, then a telephone call with the head of sales as a final round. Would have been good to have been interviewed in the head offices and get to properly meet the team - in order to feel excited and engaged with the process. It all felt quite anonymous.
- Why do you want to work in sales?
