Coding System Design

The interview process involved two main rounds. The first round was a coding test where I had to use an IDE like Intellij or Eclipse to develop an API. This API needed to take a shopping cart as input and return a boolean indicating if the cart met specific rules. The shopping cart could contain various products with quantities, and there were rules defined for product categories (e.g., a maximum quantity allowed). The API should return false if any rule was violated. I was expected to provide a working API with unit tests. The second round was a system design problem, focusing on designing an application similar to IRCTC, but with the flexibility to be adapted for other booking systems like RedBus. The design had to cover several aspects: authentication, a search functionality to find available vehicles based on date, source, and destination, a booking API for selecting and reserving seats, a cancel API for managing reservations, and a notification API to alert users 24 hours before departure.

I had a great time interviewing with Tesco. The recruiter was nice, professional, and helpful, making me feel comfortable. The interview had technical and coding questions where they wanted me to talk through my thoughts, and they gave hints when I needed them. They also asked scenario-based questions about teamwork. It was an interesting process, and the recruiter's help showed Tesco's welcoming and positive work environment.
