After applying, there was a phone call, then an in-person meeting at the store. Next came background and reference checks. An offer was extended verbally over the phone, followed by official paperwork. The onboarding included five days of introductions to the executive team. There weren't any formal training programs; it was more about independent learning with significant support.

Behavioral Presentation

The interview process was pretty straightforward. I spoke with the HR Director first, and then I was put in touch with the CEO. Both of them seemed unsure about where Ten Thousand Villages was headed and didn't give clear answers about the company's long-term strategy, the difficulties of the role, or their future vision. The questions they asked me were standard interview fare. They mentioned multiple times that as a non-profit, they couldn't offer a salary competitive with market rates but compensated with a generous benefits package. I saw the benefits details, but we never talked about the salary range. After the three interviews, including the one with the CEO, I never heard back from them. I tried reaching out by email and phone twice without a response, which I found strange for a consumer-facing brand.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Following three interviews that concluded with the CEO, I never received any communication from the company.
  • I reached out via email and phone on two separate occasions and received no response.
  • As a brand that interacts directly with consumers, I found this lack of follow-up peculiar.

So I applied with my resume and cover letter, and then got called in for a 1-hour interview. I talked to the person I'd be working with most, like my potential supervisor, and also the HR manager. It wasn't too long after, like less than 2 weeks, that they offered me the job by email and even a letter in the mail.

It was a straightforward one-on-one chat. The store manager asked me some basic stuff about the job and told me about the company. It felt pretty chill and the manager was really nice. After they hired me, we had a training session with other new sales folks one weeknight. It was cool.
