Hospitality Staff
Don't be fooled by their approach: Lola claims they hire anyone, regardless of experience, emphasizing a great attitude and hard work. However, the "training" session is actually a group interview. They'll inquire about your experience and the training materials on their website, hiring only those who can answer correctly and possess relevant experience. They might still reject you at this "training" stage. Additionally, only attend a "training" if you're prepared to start working immediately, as they'll have you book your first shifts afterward, and if you're not available right away or prefer to schedule in advance, they might not hire you.
- Could you tell me about the main service types?
Casual Staff
The training session lasted about 3 hours, but it flew by! There were around 10 of us, and the host went around the room doing quick interviews. We were asked about our origins, if we spoke other languages, and if we had any hospitality experience (like waiting tables, working at a bar, or promotional events). Then, we went through a PowerPoint about LOLA. We learned how to set cutlery, fold napkins, do wave/bomb service, and clear tables. They'll ask you to show them how to do it, but it's a group activity, so you're not on your own. If you have trouble with anything, they'll help you get it right.
- Can you tell me about your previous experience?
Event Staff
It was a very straightforward group interview. A Lola representative gave a presentation, then asked us questions about our work experience, strengths, and weaknesses. We found out if we passed the same day and could immediately apply for shifts. The Lola person was very nice, and I was able to pass even without prior work experience. There was also an optional training session offered to learn more about the role and responsibilities.
- Do you have any relevant work experience?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Promoter
We were in a spacious office in Old Street, which was great for interviews, with about 20 people being interviewed at the same time. First, we had to fill out a form. Then, everyone was asked individually about their previous experience and what they were looking for. The interviewer talked a lot about the company, its goals, and the CEO, which was great and made everything very clear.
- What past experience do you have that could benefit you in this role?
- Are you able to work flexible hours?
