Automation Engineer
I had a video interview and then an on-site where I met with 4 people. They gave me a verbal job offer over the phone, but then they totally ghosted me even though I tried following up through emails and phone calls multiple times. Super unprofessional.
- Were there many technical questions concerning lab automation?
Scientist
The process was fast, and everyone was nice and helpful. It had 3 parts: 1. A quick video call with HR about the job basics, company vibe, and to see if I was interested. 2. A few days later, I talked to the hiring manager about the job duties and my background to see if they matched. Then HR checked in to see how it went and how I felt. 3. The next week, I had in-person interviews (five 30-minute sessions) with the team members. Lots of questions were about me and if I'd fit the team culture. A few technical questions checked my basic molecular biology/bioinformatics skills. Everyone was really nice and seemed to want to get to know me.
- How much experience do you have in synthetic biology?
Logistics Associate
Applied on Linkedin Easy Apply, got an email from HR, then eventually spoke with another HR lead on the phone for about 30 minutes then the Hiring Manager afterwards. HR spends the time trying to explain the company history, where it came from with the CEO who founded another successful company deciding to start this company, then explains that it's a well funded startup with about 100 employees by end of 2020. Asks about salary expectations, then mentions most people end up not interested because they don't understand the startup mindset, but goes on to say you will get stock options and if they're successful if they IPO you may get $$$$$, basically trying to help you be realistic with the company, what they are doing, why they will pay what they will pay (about 20K less than industry in my case), and if you're up for the challenge. Spoke with the Hiring Manager afterwards, and it was a typical introduce yourself, why you are interested in the job and the company, who the HM is and their experiences, then situational and behavioral questions. I thought it went really well since they stated they would let me know by end of the week and they wanted to bring me in for an in-person interview, but then I waited, followed up (and it was holidays), then I see the position posted again changing from Logistics Associate to Logistics Supervisor with the questions I raised about developing processes and other updates. I feel that they didn't think thoroughly about what they wanted with the position, posted too early, interviewed, then took the things they learned from the interviews to update their requirements then ghosted me.
- Tell me about your experience and situation, and give me some behavioral STAR examples.
Analytics Manager
A third-party recruiter reached out on LinkedIn. I then interviewed with the hiring manager, HR, and another key business stakeholder at Codex. The HR interview was not great, it felt like they didn't know about my other interviews, and the interview agenda was rushed. They even gave me extra questions to answer by email, which was really unprofessional and impacted my view of the company negatively after the good impression from the other interviews. I never heard back from Codex or the recruiter about my candidacy.
- What are your strategies for ensuring a good fit within a startup environment?
