Technical Coding

I applied online and then got called for a two-part remote interview for the intern role. The technical part involved a question about programming edge cases using a company-specific scenario, presented in a document, kind of like a whiteboard interview.

Technical Behavioral

It was just one interview round where they mixed technical and behavioral questions. The technical part involved arrays, and the behavioral questions were typical. I had a good chat with the employees, and the interview felt appropriately difficult for an intern position.

  • Can you share an instance where you successfully navigated a difficult challenge?
  • Describe a situation where you overcame an obstacle.

Behavioral Technical

After applying online, I was contacted for a phone interview. This initial call was quite laid-back and focused on my background, previous projects, and internship goals. It was a very open discussion, and the interviewer asked thoughtful questions while also providing clear answers about TechSmith's culture and team. This was followed by a Skype interview with the UX Research team, which maintained a conversational, back-and-forth Q&A format. Some questions involved how I would handle specific scenarios, covering both general behavioral and UX-related situations. I really felt like I would have enjoyed working at TechSmith; the employees seemed genuinely invested in the product and the company environment, and I'm confident I would have both learned a lot and contributed significantly during an internship there.

Technical

They had me do a data entry test first. They immediately tested my WPM and asked me to analyze their purchase orders. It's weird because companies have different purchase orders, and TechSmith expects you to know their system right away. If you fail, you're out. I passed the WPM test, but I guess I didn't pass their data entry test. I did have 1.5 years of experience as a data entry clerk before. How was I supposed to know TechSmith's system? Oh well, it seemed like a place that was copying Google, and I wouldn't want to work with people like that anyway.
