So after I applied and wrote some stuff about my experiences and values, I first chatted with the department manager to see if I'd be a good fit. They asked stuff that lined up with the application questions, and I got to talk about my values, experience, and why I wanted the job. Then I did some tasks that were like the main job duties. The instructions were clear, and it seemed like they cared more about my thinking process than if I could actually do the task perfectly. The last interview had a bunch of people from Teaching Lab, including the actual manager for the role. Again, I felt like I could talk more about what I made and how I'd handle different situations based on my values. The whole thing was organized, they stuck to the timeline, and I was happy to get the offer.

I went through the whole hiring process, and it ended with reference and work sample checks, plus a final panel interview. Teaching Lab moved pretty fast, and the talent manager tried hard to be upfront with me. But after my last interview, things got weird. For 5 weeks, about once a week, I was told they just needed a little more time for deliberation, then that another candidate was sick and needed more time for their final interview, and the excuses got stranger and stranger as the timeline kept getting pushed back. After 10 weeks, when another decision deadline passed, I sent an email asking for a decision because I had other job offers. The talent manager, who was actually really nice, replied that they decided to go with an internal candidate. This whole 3-month situation made me question how well this organization communicates and works together internally, if they can stick to a schedule, or at least keep people updated if they can't, and most importantly, if they keep their word. If you're experienced and know you'd bring a lot to a role, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. Good luck!

I applied for a manager role in early December 2023 and got an interview invite in mid-February 2024. I set up my interview using Calendly. But on the day of the interview, about 45 minutes before it was supposed to start, I got an email saying they'd already offered the job to someone else. It was pretty strange to schedule an interview if they were already in the final stages with another candidate. This whole thing felt a bit off, and now I'm wondering if I avoided a bigger issue.

Had to answer a bunch of application questions upfront. Then in the interview, they asked things I felt like I already answered in writing, like they didn't really read my stuff. Had a quick zoom chat first, they said they'd tell me about the next steps but then it went quiet. I had to chase them up after waiting past the follow-up time. The interview itself was pretty standard, and the org seems to be doing really good work.
