The application process kicks off smoothly. From your first online submission all the way through reference checks, TFA has a solid process to see how your unique skills and experiences match the job. They also check if your motivations align with their mission and the core values that make Teach For America a special place to work. There are five main steps in the application process, usually taking about six-to-10 weeks total. These steps are also for you to figure out if TFA is a good fit for you and your career goals.

My first interview was via Spark Hire, but the system was so buggy it was hard to concentrate on the questions. I kept getting error messages after recording my answers. It felt very impersonal. Someone reviewed my response to a three-part question, which I only had 60 seconds to answer, and decided I wasn't a good fit. I had four questions in total, all substantial, asking multiple things, and only 60 seconds for each. The last question was whether I had any questions for them. I asked two, but no one ever got back to me. I also emailed for feedback and got no response. The whole experience was not great. I still believe in TFA's mission though and hope they find the best person for the role.

The phone interview was very structured. The Talent Director gave me a clear framework of what we would speak about, and for how long. At the end of the interview, she gave me a clear picture of the hiring process and a date by which I would hear from her, if I were to be selected for an in-person interview. Often, they ask management-level staff to complete a sample project or report before the second interview.
