Software Engineer
Recruiter reached out on LinedIn. Had the initial call. Then the initial technical exercise. The exercise is pretty simple if you worked with ruby enough. They give you some broken code and a couple unit tests and you're supposed to fix the code using unit tests as your guide. Then came the interview with the hiring manager with more or less standard questions. I felt it went fairly well, but I'm a bit on a spectrum - wouldn't be the first time I misread the situation. Waited for 5 days after the conversation with the manager, then followed up with the recruiter. Still didn't get any response. Waited for another 5 days, followed up with someone else on the team and got a typical response from the recruiter that they decided not to go with my candidacy. 10 days to follow up is a bit long, but it's also December, totally understandable with a lot of people being out of the office. I really liked the company from what I could gather about them. Wish they provided some feedback as to what was lacking in the interview.

Recruiter
Applied online and heard back quickly to set up an interview. My first interview was good. The interviewer was nice and asked good questions, and also told me a lot about the job. But the second interviewer was a different experience. It felt like she had already decided about me. She started by asking me to explain my resume, which she said was "all over the place." It made me wonder why they'd even call me if they didn't like my resume. The rest of her questions were unclear, fast, and she didn't seem interested. Her background was messy and she looked unkempt, not a good first impression for the company. Even with that, TaxJar seems like a good company, but their recruiting process needs some work.

Technology Partner Manager
TaxJar reached out to me on LinkedIn about the Technology Partner Manager role. Although I wasn't actively searching, I decided to explore the opportunity. The process involved four interviews via Zoom: first with a recruiter, then the hiring manager, followed by the CRO, and finally the Director of Partnerships. The interviews were relaxed and friendly, focusing on my past experience and cultural fit. Each session lasted about 30-45 minutes, with ample time for my questions. After the last interview, I was told the next step was a cultural interview with leadership, which I thought was the final stage. I felt good about potentially moving to the next phase. A few days later, the recruiter contacted me for a brief 10-minute call. On Monday, she informed me that the hiring manager had chosen another candidate. It was a pretty standard interview process, which I appreciated, as I dislike overly complicated or 'creative' hiring methods. I think they're a good company, and I'd consider reapplying if another opportunity arose.

Full Time Position
I found TaxJar on LinkedIn and reached out about a job. After chatting with the hiring manager a few times, I got an offer for a paid Trial Period, which is standard for all hires at TaxJar and a required part of their process. I took it. About a month later, I got a full-time offer. The Trial terms were clearly laid out before I accepted. Even though it's not typical, this Trial really helped me decide to join TaxJar, and I'm super happy here. It seems like a key part of building a great team, and they do a good job explaining it upfront. The interview was remote, even though I put Woburn, MA for Glassdoor.
