First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Taunton Press.
Staff Accountant
First I had a phone interview with HR. They asked general behavior questions. Then, an on-site interview followed with the hiring manager if HR thought I was a good fit. The interview wasn't hard; it was all behavior questions.
- Could you introduce yourself and explain your motivation for applying to this role?
Web Designer
The interview process was quite thorough, and the interviewers were very pleasant. They effectively addressed any questions I had, and I got a clear understanding of the responsibilities associated with the role.
- Could you tell me about your educational background, including where you studied and the degree you obtained?
Associate Editor
The initial interview, trial run, and HR interview were really fast and professional. However, the final decision took ages, over 3 months, which was a bit frustrating. The editorial and creative teams seemed really keen for me to join. It was nice working with everyone, the environment felt great, and it seemed like a good fit. My impression is HR was hesitant about bringing me on at the top of the salary band offered.
- Could you manage financially if your salary was less than what you currently earn?
Product Development
Met with SVP of Marketing. Lots of recent company changes, the industry needs to move beyond ad/circulation revenue to new revenue streams, and they are trying to move to increased digital and new product development. At the interview, background and needs of the position were reviewed. Got positive feedback on the interview and follow-up letter. Received a letter three weeks later declining further discussions.
