First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Tata Steel Europe.
CAD Coordinator
The first step was a phone call with HR, which went really well. Then, I had a virtual interview with the Team Manager and two team members. They asked about the job and my background, and I got invited to the next round. That was also a great experience. The third interview was virtual with the Senior Manager and Account Manager, where they asked about my profile, motivation, and future career growth. Unfortunately, they decided not to move forward with my application. Despite not getting the job, they gave me some helpful advice for finding a role that's a better fit. Overall, it was a positive experience.

Electrical Engineer
I applied on the Tata Steel Europe website and they called me to set up an interview at Port Talbot about a month later. A week before the interview, they sent me an email with all the prep info. They wanted me to do a presentation on Energy Neutral Buildings, and the email had 5 questions to cover. I was interviewed by 2 people. The presentation was supposed to be 6 slides with a 10-minute time limit, followed by questions about my presentation. After that, they asked me random questions about myself and the company, so I made sure to research what they do at the Port Talbot location and also what Tata Steel and the Tata Group do in general. Then we got into technical questions, so make sure to revise beforehand. They asked a lot about motors and control systems. For motors, they showed me a picture of a machine and asked me to identify the components. I pointed out the motors, and they asked what types they were and how they work, so definitely study up on motors as they might show different pictures. Then they showed me the control diagram for the machine and asked me to explain how it works, along with general control system questions. Don't panic, the interview was overall easy, just study beforehand. Even if you don't know the answers, the interviewers are helpful and nice, making you feel comfortable. Remember to prepare your own questions to ask at the end, it's really important!

Chemical Process Engineer
Applied online. Got a Skype call request for a competency-based interview, up to an hour. Didn't get info on who I'd be speaking with, HR gave two names with no titles. They had no online profiles, which I asked HR about but got no reply. Interview day, they called my mobile due to Skype issues. Sound was bad but I managed. No competency questions asked. One person asked about my background and HSE experience. The other was mostly silent. They said they'd let me know in a week. Got an email from a different HR person asking for more time, said they'd be in touch in another week. Then silence. After the third week, I asked for an update, still silence. A week later (fourth week), I emailed the interviewers directly. No formal reply or manners shown, just silence.
- Can you detail your background and overall experience?
- What is your knowledge of DSEAR and ATEX?
Trainee Program
Applied online and got an email for an HR screening interview. After passing that, I was invited to an assessment center at their facility. This included a technical presentation on a given problem, interviews with HR and a senior engineer, and a group discussion with 6 other candidates. I didn't get a rejection email, so I had to call them three times. Finally, they told me I was rejected but didn't provide any feedback as promised.
- Tell me about yourself and other basic behavioral questions.
