Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Tata Communications.
Assistant Manager
The interview process is pretty straightforward. You'll start with a technical round covering networking, order management, and basic telecommunications. If you pass that, you'll move on to a managerial round to assess your attitude and communication skills. After clearing both, there's a salary discussion with HR.
- Can you introduce yourself without discussing your work experience?
- Could you tell me about your understanding of networking?
- Please describe the concept of order management.
Management Trainee
The interview was coordinated internationally, but I expected professionalism from this top company, which I didn't receive. I wasn't informed of the interview location and had to find it myself, even after trying to contact the scheduler multiple times. During the interview, my phone rang and I received a message about the location! The rest of the interview process was pretty standard. I met two interviewers from different departments who had some overlapping responsibilities. However, they seemed unprepared. They made me wait, appeared surprised to see me, and had to print my resume, even though I brought copies. The interview felt like a casual conversation about the company's work, their needs, and my experience. It lasted about 30-40 minutes, and both interviewers were pleasant. I was rejected a month later with the explanation that my experience didn't meet their requirements, which is hard to believe since they decided to interview me in the first place. It felt like a waste of time for everyone. Ironically, they hired someone a few months prior with no prior experience.
- What's your approach to closing a deal when a customer indicates a competitor offered a better price?
Manager
Started with a discovery call with a Recruitment Specialist, then went through 3 rounds with the General Manager, Vice President and possibly someone from the Global Management team. After that, there was an HR round. This was followed by a final salary negotiation round where I also had to give my date of joining.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- What makes you want to apply for this position?
- What are your reasons for wanting to join the Tata Group?
