First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Tapad.
Data Scientist
I first encountered Tapad at a university career fair, where I had a great conversation with a data scientist. A week later, a recruiter reached out about the Summer Internship Program, suggesting I apply based on my background. The hiring process was quite smooth, and the HR team was very responsive and helpful. I went through two technical phone interviews with different Data Science team members. These involved discussing my past experience and projects, along with some technical questions covering math and machine learning concepts. Soon after the second phone interview, I was invited to their NYC office for onsite interviews. The recruiter was very friendly and gave me a tour. I then had three 30-45 minute interviews with the two data scientists from the phone screens and the VP of Data Science. These interviews included more technical questions and a coding exercise. I really enjoyed the discussions with the team, and the technical questions were engaging, feeling more like a conversation than a traditional interview. After the winter break, I received a call with an offer for the summer internship program.
- Tell me about your previous experience and projects.
- Can you answer some technical questions about math and machine learning?
- Please complete a coding exercise.
Data Scientist
I applied online and then HR contacted me. It took HR two weeks to schedule the interview. Once we started talking, the HR person mentioned that the Data Science team members were mostly from Ivy League schools, but then quickly added that they do consider non-Ivy League graduates too. At that point, I felt like I was just wasting my time and that I was only being interviewed to meet some quota. A week later, I received a very brief and uninformative rejection email with no explanation. It felt unprofessional and like a complete waste of my time.
- Could you share your Masters GPA?
Data Scientist
It was a three-round process: a phone screen, a tech screen, and an on-site. First, we had a 30-minute presentation with the DS team. Then, there were two more technical rounds with the DS folks. One focused on ML/DL, and the other on metrics/stats. The interviewers were really nice and all the teams were friendly. The recruiter was awesome, super communicative and friendly.
- Can you elaborate on your presentation?
- Tell us about your knowledge breadth in data science.
- Tell us about your knowledge breadth in machine learning.
