First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Tailwind.
Software Engineer
So I had this initial phone screen with one of the co-founders, Alex. After that, I went in for an all-day interview with the team in New York. This included a bunch of technical sessions testing my skills in coding, problem-solving, teamwork, and system design. They also had sessions where they showed me their tech stack and code, and I got to ask them about stuff like work-life balance and pay. On top of that, the recruiter, Kolbi, set up optional remote coffee chats with folks on the engineering and product teams in OKC, which was cool for checking out the culture and meeting people. It was definitely the most in-depth process I've been through. It took a lot of time and was tough, but I really got to know the team during the project day and felt like I could see myself there by the time they made an offer. All in all, a really good experience that shows they really care about finding the right people.
- A live coding project was assigned, and I was asked questions related to my experience with various technologies.
- There was a system design exercise that involved whiteboarding.
- I was asked questions about my experience working on a development team.
Challenging But Informative Interview
I had a very positive experience interviewing with Tailwind. It started with an introductory call with the recruitment team, who were incredibly informative and asked me to walk through my background and experience. After that, I came into the OKC office (this was pre-COVID) to meet with the team and interview with two team members. The next step involved a project-based activity where I got to work on a project and demonstrate my skills. Overall, I felt like I got a really good understanding of what it's like to work at Tailwind and if I would be happy there! My only feedback would be that I never knew what the entire process would look like. That would be my advice to the hiring team: give a clearer picture of the overall process earlier on.
- What are you looking for in your next role?
Product Marketing Manager
I was contacted by a recruiter from Tailwind. We scheduled a screening call, and the recruiter mentioned my background seemed like a good match and that they were currently determining the salary range for the role. They said I'd hear back within a week about whether to proceed. After 10 days with no word, I sent a polite follow-up asking about the salary range and their interest in moving forward. I never received a response and was ghosted without any explanation.
- Can you walk me through the process of launching a new product?
Product Manager
Had a phone call with the Chief of Staff, then a 1:1 with a Product Manager. After that was a teardown exercise followed by a panel interview with the Head of Product and some PMs. Then, a strategy interview with the HoP and an engineering manager. The next step was a one-day workshop and then a final 1:1 call with the CEO.
- Can you describe your process for prioritizing features?
- Imagine you are an independent product consultant for a fictional company; how would you approach this role-play exercise?
- What is your approach to UX/UI design?
