First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at TA Instruments.
Service Administrator
I applied online and they reached out quickly. I went through 2 interview rounds with 2 different people, each lasting about 45 minutes. The hiring manager seemed approachable. I didn't end up getting an offer, but that's how it goes.
- Can you describe your work experiences over the past five years?
Technical Representative
It was a multi-level interview process. I interviewed with the hiring manager, some regional managers, and the sales director. The interviews were spaced out over time. It seemed like other positions had a similar process. There were about 3 interviews in total. Everyone was professional and courteous, but I did expect to be grilled by at least one interviewer.
- Tell me, why did the chicken cross the road?
Software Development Engineer
I put in an application online and then reached out to a recruiter on LinkedIn. After a few days, they got in touch to set up a phone interview. This interview was with the software manager and a senior software engineer. Two days after that, I was contacted to schedule an on-site interview, and I picked one of the dates they gave me. On the day of the scheduled on-site, I found out they had to reschedule due to vacations. I suggested some other dates, but they never confirmed a new on-site date. About a week or two later, I was informed that they had selected another candidate for the job.
- What technical hobbies do you have?
- Can you describe an instance where you applied SOLID principles in an implementation?
- Could you discuss your technical projects?
Applications Engineer
The interview process was a full day. First, I met the hiring manager who showed me around and talked about the company, products, and the role. Then, I met with different teams, including current people in the same position. We had an open discussion about the job's responsibilities, pros, cons, and what they look for. This part was great for understanding the team and company culture. There weren't many formal questions, mostly just talking about my past work and studies. It was surprisingly light on technical stuff for an Applications Engineer role. They don't expect you to know everything already, but they want to see a scientific foundation and, more importantly, your potential and eagerness to learn. A key part of the interview is giving a technical presentation to a group of engineers and managers, possibly with remote viewers. You can present on any topic, like your graduate research, as long as it relates to TA's techniques. This is important because technical presentations are a major part of the job.
- What makes you a good fit for this role?
