I sent in my cover letter and resume online. Then had a phone screen with the hiring manager. After that, I met with two different groups of people. Finally, they offered me the job.

I first applied online and then got a call for a phone interview. The first phone interview was about 30 minutes and kind of semi-formal. Then, I got another call for a second phone interview, this time with the next level up manager, which lasted almost an hour and covered technical and administrative stuff. After that, they asked me to come in for an onsite interview. I was there for two full days, meeting with a bunch of people. Day one had three interviews, including one with the CEO. Day two had four more interviews. They asked all sorts of questions – personal, administrative, and technical, some pretty tough. It felt like a lot, but they were really trying to find someone who was good technically and also fit their intense company culture that the management has every day.

So I interviewed with a bunch of different people at the company, and I was pretty stoked because it was an entry-level gig right out of school. Then, out of the blue, they wanted me to meet with the CEO for what they called the final step. It was kinda weird since I was basically an assistant to an assistant, so why would the CEO be involved? The whole meeting turned into this intense questioning about why I wasn't a good fit, and he even dragged my morals into it. He wrapped it up by asking if I had any questions, saying it was probably 'the last time you will ever see me.' I was totally shocked and left with a really bad impression of the company's vibe and values. Definitely would not suggest this place.

So the process was quick, like within 24 hours of applying I got an invite to talk with the CEO the same day. The interview with the CEO was 2 days later. It was mostly about Syringa's philosophy and guiding principles, and we talked about his vision for this new job. It felt like he was checking my fit and soft skills rather than a typical HR thing. Right after that, I got an invite for a second interview with 9 senior team members for the next week, which was almost 5 hours long. It was one-on-one meetings with each person. They all knew their stuff, were professional, and nice. They each explained their job and asked how I'd handle the responsibilities of this role. I left feeling really good about the company and its mission, and I understood the job better. They really seemed to care about cultural fit, not just saying it. They told me my status quickly too. I didn't get the job, but I'd tell people looking for a fast, straightforward small company that values real substance to check out Syringa.
