Behavioral Presentation

The interview process was pretty straightforward, and I moved through the first three interviews pretty fast. First, I had a call with the recruiter, then an interview with the hiring manager, and then a meeting with the hiring manager and their manager. Finally, there was a presentation demo. I thought the presentation was a bit old-fashioned, but I get why they'd want to see the skills. I was supposed to hear back by the end of the week since the presentation was on a Monday, but I was basically ghosted. I tried reaching out to the recruiter and sent follow-up emails to everyone I spoke with, but I got no response or feedback. I really think that if you make it through the whole interview process, you should get some kind of feedback, no matter what. I also noticed they reposted the job on LinkedIn recently.

The interview was mostly talking with members of the teams I would be working with to see how well we could collaborate. It was nice to get honest opinions from everyone.

Behavioral Presentation

I was happy to give the company the benefit of the doubt even with negative reviews online, and the first two people I spoke with were great, addressing my concerns upfront. This eased my mind, so I agreed to move on to the final stage: a presentation. The recruiter said someone would contact me with details, but the work week passed without contact. I messaged the recruiter on Friday, explaining that we'd need to reschedule the Monday interview. I was on vacation but planned to take an hour for the call, but without the presentation details, I told them I'd do it upon my return. It wasn't until 10 minutes before the final interview that I got a response saying 'no worries' and we'd reschedule for the next week. No apology was offered for the poor communication. Later that day, the person who was supposed to send me the presentation info emailed, also without an apology, claiming they *did* send it and it must have gone to my spam. I can confirm it did not; that was the first place I checked. This response confirmed that the issues the first two people mentioned had not been fixed. My advice to the company: own your communication errors instead of deflecting blame.

The interview process was long, with about 8 virtual interviews. I enjoyed talking with everyone and was excited about the role, but there was one catch: a final presentation. They said it shows you really want the job. It usually involves a part about you, a part about the company based on what you learned, and a part related to the position. However, for me, they asked for a 3-year strategy to be submitted beforehand. I felt this was work I should be doing after being hired, and I wouldn't have enough information to do it effectively beforehand. The recruiter mentioned the hiring manager deviated from the norm for my case. The final exec interview confirmed the 3-year strategy requirement. I decided to withdraw from the process because it felt like working for free with no offer guarantee, and they could use my strategy without hiring me. I would have accepted immediately if not for this requirement. Also, in tech, things change so fast that a 3-year plan is impractical due to constant evolution. My advice is to remove this part to avoid losing good candidates.
